Since spring 2008 I have some desmocaris trispinosa in my 240L-tank. These shrimp are selled rarely and I have had problems to find more information about the keeping and breeding.

This shrimp was found f. e. in Nigeria at Sombreiro River nearby the citys Okansu und Ahoada (Nwadiaro,1982).The scientist quotes the water parameter of the headwater in dry season as follows: Temp: 24-25 Grad C; PH: 5,6-6,0; (dGH) 21,3 (Nwadiaro 1985).

These shrimps should be kept in groups of 10 or more because they like to swim in a swarm. They don’t like drift and are good jumper – so better use a coverage for your tank! Desmocaris trispinosa are able to survive in water with very low oxygene, as Bauer found out (Bauer, Remarkable Shrimps, 2004).

Guinea Swamp Shrimp are of the specialized breeding type and carry 6-10 eggs for around 5 weeks.
