Tiger Shrimps without Stripes

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

People often wonder about the existence of Tiger Shrimp without stripes. I can tell you they exist! There are people in Germany breeding Blue Tiger (OE) without stripes. Both, the color of stripes and the existence of stripes can be interchanged by crossbreeding Tiger. Beyond that, stripes get smaller in the first generations when crossbreeding different types of Tiger. Since we only know how that shrimp look like, the secret hasn’t resolved yet if stripes are only colorless or if the pattern disappeared at all.

The glossy coloration of Taiwan Bee and Sakura shrimp leads to the suspicion that there is a third color layer besides body and body surface responsible for coloration.

Peolpe having Bee shrimp or CR often are not sure about water parameter for tiger shrimp. In my experience, Tiger need a little different water conditions then CR. They are able to adapt in various fields but pH schould not be too low. I had tiger shrimp dying on shrimp soil with pH under 6.5 or temperatures over 26 degrees. Only Black Tiger Shrimp sometimes bear and need lower pH if they have been bred under this conditions originally.

Water Parameter
Temperature: 18-25 celsius
pH: 6.8-7.4
KH: 10-0
GH: 13-4
