Red Tiger Shrimp

Red Tiger Shrimps come from different strains:

  • They wildcaught form from southern China is a local color variation of normal Tiger Shrimps. These shrimps are not so easy to get and sometimes have the body shimmering bluish.
  • Another strain has been bred by Gerd Voss in Germany. Gerd crossbred Red Tiger with Chrystal Red shrimps. So, we are in fact about Tigerbee (but one cannot see this).
  • The third strain has been bred from BlueTiger Shrimp as some people tell. I am not sure about this although there are some Blue Tiger having real wine red color when berried.

All the efforts to breed red tiger stripes wider have failed until now. I guess that only crossbreeding with Black Tiger or so called Supertiger may be worth a try.

Red Tiger need similar water parameter (temp 20-24°C, pH 6,4 – 8; GH 4-10°dGH; KH 0-6°dKH) then other Tiger shrimp and are easy to keep.
