Last Saturday I took a ride with the train to Penzberg, which is located in the very south of Bavaria. I was spending more than 6 hours travelling trough nice landscapes before finally arriving on the countryside.
Mura Kilic, a friend of mine and owner of water-box.de, has invited several people for a relaxed come together in his new fish room he finally finished. An amount of 66 smaller (~54L), two brook-like tanks and 6 terrariums has been build up. The tanks are set up with undergravel-air filter; the bigger tanks have external Aquael canister filter. Mura is not only interested in rare shrimps, but has also a passion on mini fish and snails.
Roland Numrich and Werner Klotz have held talks on shrimp biotops in China and Vietnam they have been visiting lately. In both lectures it was made clear, that the most dangerous thing menacing wild shrimps is the loss of their biotops. Deforestation for farming leeds to further problems like the undesired impact of pesticides and fertilizer on remaining brooks. While rice farming is done in China, tangerine plantations are built up in Vietnam. The first find spot of caridina venusta has disappeared yet; the brook has disappeared.
Overall, it was a very nice meeting with lot of conversation on shrimps, crayfish and exchange of new ideas.
