Mafia Wars in Shrimp World

Posted: 12th June 2010 by Imke in General, People

Let me just make a short remark on the latest development of some shrimp forums. I regularly read:

  • shrimpnow.com
  • aquaquotient.com
  • arofanatics.com
  • wirbellose.net
  • crustawelt.de
  • garnelenforum.de

Discussion netiquette is quiet different and mostly depends on forum moderation and forum administration. While I feel welcome and respected in all Asian forums, I cannot say the same of some German forums. That’s a pity and I wonder why German’s seem to have a very rough, sometimes disrespectful discussion attitude to others. Have users brought the pressure to perform from business to hobby?

Ambition, envy and rivalry signify Germany’s shrimp community.  Especially in German garnelenforum many people have quiet as users due to negative directions from the mod’s panel. Things even got worse in 2010 and we will have a big split, I guess. Establishing and maintaining an open, fair and stimulating debate culture is a challenge for ever forum owner. Censorship, inequality and misuse of power will make more people leave – most times voluntary but sometimes also forced and kicked out .

Since the internet reflect real life and virtual users are real humans, this will have effect on shrimp business, too. I am still waiting for the first International Shrimp Breeders Association – things will grow, you may rest assured.

P.S. Anybody feeling commenting on this please keep in mind that I am now travelling; comments will be moderated from Monday on.
