The Genetics of Taiwan Bee

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Everybody interested in the genetics of Taiwan Bee, should check out this thread in shrimpnow (click here) where some really interesting pictures have been showed. It seems that King Kong, Panda and red Ruby are not so far from Tigers and Tiger Bees.

New Tigerbees

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Thanks to Kerstin I have some Tigerbees again. Since I believe that Tiger and CR/CB have a similar genetical background I am trying to do some ‘backcrossing’ with Tiger and CR. Or, to say it vice versa: I do not try to breed the Tigerbees among each other. People trying to breed a Tigerbee mono group have problems with getting offspring. Perhaps these shrimps get quickly infertile when not backcrossed.

One thing that caught my eye is that the Tigerbees look kind of milky inside the body. I am now sure that this is no sign of sickness or illness: I am more and more convinced that this is a hint to the new combination of protein due to genetical recombination of chromosoms.

Snow White x Black Tiger

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Anybody interested in crossbreeding Snow White (f) x Black Tiger (male, black eyes) should have a closer look at the remarks of Uwe Neumann in a German forum. In the F1 there are only a low percentage of shrimp with normal black tiger stripes and white on the back. Most of the offspring looks like normal tiger. Breeding further generation by doing backcrossing might be difficult due to infertility. Pictures are only visible for registered users, text is in German. If you are planning to crossbreed these shrimp, remember that not every ‘Snow White’ has the same genetic background, as Black Tiger have neither!

Second Choice Shrimps

For crossbreeding affairs even not so perfect or second choice shrimp are interesting. This Golden Sbow White has a defective pattern which might be good choice for breeding Tigerbees.
