Caridina Hodgarti (Grüne Nashorngarnele)
The ‘Green Nose Shrimp’ (Caridina Hodgarti) was discovered and discribed by Kemp 1913 first. The scientist found this shrimp at the Brahmautra river in India, nearby the town Dibrugargh. I have done some research on water parameter and found this table (PDF). Therefore I decided to keep them in soft, low acid water for the first days:
- temperature 24-27 C
- pH 6,5-7
- electric conductivity 300-400ms
Like other wildcaught shrimp, this species requieres intensive care and is not easy to hold. Rostrums are often damaged and the shrimps need to recover after long transportation. I have mine for one week with 50% losses - but the shrimps seem stable now. This is the second try after my first group I have gotten in May 2009 has vanished. And last but not least: Be aware that the hodgarti are good jumper and use a coverage on your tank!
